Hello, and welcome to the Disabled Peoples Project, which showcases biographies of people with disabilities doing great things in life. Each episode or number is a different biography lasting less than 3 minutes. Today's biography is:
David Proud
David is an actor turned director.
He was the first regular actor with disabilities to appear in British soap opera Eastenders.
He's now an independent film maker and has written and produced films along with being a writer for Coronation Street.
Tom initially wanted to do drama at university but felt an unfeasible career with disabilities, so they worked for a benefits team for the DWP. He then found a break within acting, and the rest is history.
David has Spina Bifida and uses a wheelchair. As per previous numbers, the wheelchair is a person's aid to do things in life, not their disability.
